Ghanaians No Dey Joke — MoMo Transactions Hit GH¢3.6 TRILLION!

New data obtained from the Bank of Ghana reveals that the amount of money transferred using mobile devices in Ghana reached 3.6 trillion Ghanaian cedis between the months of January and October in the year 2025. This demonstrates significant growth from one month to the next, as transactions increased from GH¢406 billion in the month of September to GH¢436 billion in the month of October. When compared to the GH¢2.368 trillion that was recorded in the same time period in 2024 and the GH¢1.367 trillion that was recorded in 2023, the 2025 number is much greater. Increased attempts to create a cashless economy, a greater number of individuals using mobile money for payments, and the broader adoption of mobile money by institutions are all factors that contribute to the spike. By October 2025, there were a total of 79.1 million registered mobile money accounts, 25.3 million of which were active, and there were over 949,000 agents working across the country. A grand total of 893 million transactions were completed throughout the specified time frame, while interoperable transfers made via mobile money services totaled to 40 billion Ghana cedis.
