No approval, no endorsement, Tourism Ministry distances itself from Karnival Kingdom after bishops blast ‘indecent content.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts has said it got no official communication about the organisation of the Karnival Kingdom Festival held in Accra and did not endorse, sanction or authorise the event. In a statement signed by the Minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the ministry reiterated that organisers of tourism, cultural, entertainment and public events are mandated to take the necessary regulatory approvals before staging such activities and reaffirmed its commitment to promote lawful events that are culturally respectful and uphold the nation’s values and Ghana’s reputation as a safe destination. The statement followed public concerns and criticism of reported indecent content at the festival including condemnation from the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference which called for an investigation, review of permitting processes and clearer decency guidelines as well as concerns raised by the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council which said the event reflected a lapse in regulatory oversight and expressed concern about exposure of inappropriate content in public spaces where families and children were present.
