NPP Must Embrace Criticism (Asah-Asante Urges Tolerance, Fairness Amid Party Tensions)

Dr. Kwame Asah-Asante, a political scientist, has told the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to accept criticism and follow the rules of the party. He says that having different opinions is important for democracy. He said on JoyNews’s The Pulse show, “I know that political parties are run by rules and regulations, and that every member is supposed to follow the rules, so your actions and inactions should follow the rules of the game.” If you don’t do this, you will be punished in the right way. He also said, “That said, it is also important for people to know that criticisms are the oils that grease the wheels of governance, without which any political entity will grind to a halt.” He stressed that the NPP must “develop a very thick skin and have a big stomach to be able to stomach some of these things and then build capacity on that.” He said he hoped for fairness and due process, saying, “It is my prayer that due process will take place so that what Professor Boateng has said, he will come there and have his say before a body, and at the end of the day we will see the outcome.” His comments come after the NPP started the process of kicking out former Minister Prof. Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng for calling the party “fake” and saying that the 2023 presidential primary was rigged to help Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
